Softball Falls Twice on Day Two of USF Series

Lauren Watson led the way for the Mastodons going (3 for 7) at the plate on the day. Emily Olszewski and Sierra Miranda both had two hits.
In the first game, Jessica Murray hit her first home run of the year to centerfield give the IPFW the early 1-0 lead. The Norse would answer quickly putting up three runs in the top of the second. A Sydney Windlan RBI single would close the gap to 3-2. Northern Kentucky would then add three more runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-2. The 'Dons wouldn't quit. In the fifth and sixth scoring two runs, first off an Emily Olszewski RBI double in the fifth, then an RBI single by Watson in the sixth. Northern Kentucky added three runs in the seventh and would go on to win.
Elizabeth Snodgrass started in the circle for the Mastodons and she went 5 2-3 innings, had five strikeouts and gave up two earned runs. Demitra Burns would come in relief for the last 1 1-3 innings for IPFW.
Game two neither team scored until the fifth inning when Villanova scored three runs and then came back in the sixth to put up five more. The Mastodons would fight back in the bottom of the sixth manufacturing one run off a Kelly Pevely RBI single that brought around Olszewski.
Sarah Lazarowich toed the rubber for the first 5 2-3 innings then Burns came in relief for the last 1 1-3 innings of play.
The squad returns to action March 6 to finish play in the Under Armour Invitational against Texas State, first pitch is set for 9 a.m.
