IPFW Gets Back to Winning Ways with Sweep of Charleston

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men's volleyball team dominated the University of Charleston at home sweeping the Golden Eagles, 3-0. The Mastodons snapped an eight-match losing streak with their victory over the Golden Eagles (25-12, 25-20, 25-20).
Andrew Sellan led the 'Dons with a match-high 13 kills as well as three service aces and five digs. Gabriel Quinones earned a career-high 34 assists, while adding five digs. Tony Price made eight kills, a single service ace, and three digs, while Alex Harthaller added six kills and three service aces. David Frazee and Kyle Fitzgerald made five kills each. Luis Bertran had a team-high eight digs to add to his current school record of career digs (856).
The Mastodons opened up the match on a high note going on a 7-3 run over the Golden Eagles to give them the early advantage. Charleston was able to get within two points of the Blue and White, 12-10, but it didn't take long for the 'Dons to take control and close out the set on a 13-2 run.
Charleston came out strong in the second set on a 3-1 run and the teams went point-for-point until a pair of kills from Sellan and a few errors from the Golden Eagles gave the Mastodons an 18-15 advantage. Price closed out the second set with a pair of kills giving IPFW a 2-0 advantage for the match. Price finished the set hitting .500, earning four kills on eight attempts while combining with Fitzgerald for seven total blocks.
The Golden Eagles pressured the 'Dons early in the third set looking to make a comeback, but IPFW wouldn't allow it. Sellan made seven kills in the third set alone, hitting .600, helping the Mastodons take the third set and clinch the match.
IPFW will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for some spring break action against Rio Piedras on March 8 and 10 with each match starting at 5 p.m. once the Blue and White return home, the 'Dons will get back to MIVA play taking on instate rival, No. 8 Ball State, on March 16 at 7 p.m.
