Softball Drops Doubleheader to Jaguars

INDIANAPOLIS - The IPFW softball team dropped its Summit League doubleheader to in-state foe IUPUI by scores of 3-1 and 8-0.
Emily Olszewski led the 'Dons on the day going 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored. Jessica Murray and Jenna Balthazor each collected two hits on the day, while Murray drove in the lone Mastodon run.
In game one, IUPUI scored first with a run in the bottom of the second before starting pitcher Sarah Lazarowich pitched out of a bases loaded jam. The 'Dons tied the game in the fourth after a leadoff double from Olszewski. A sacrifice bunt by Sierra Miranda moved her to second before Murray drove Olszewski home on a single through the right side.
IUPUI added two more runs in the fifth on a double. IPFW put runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to push across a run.
Lazarowich took the loss, throwing a complete game while allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
The second game saw the Jaguars take the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring twice. IUPUI added two more runs in the second, one in the third, and three more in the fourth. The Mastodon bats were unable to get going in game two, as they were limited to three hits. Olszewski singled with one out in the top of the first and Balthazor reached twice on singles, coming in the third and fifth innings.
Demitra Burns started in the circle for the 'Dons and suffered the loss, surrendering five runs, three earned, on five hits. Elizabeth Snodgrass came on for the final inning and gave up three runs on one hit.
The final game of the series will begin at 11 a.m. on April 17.
