Six-Run Inning Powers Softball Past IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS - A six-run fourth inning powered the IPFW softball team past in-state rival IUPUI 6-4 to win the final game of the weekend series.
Four different players had a hit for the Mastodons in Jenna Balthazor, Kelly Pevely, Caitlyn DeLong, and Lauren Watson. Balthazor led the offense with a double and two RBIs.
The Jaguars opened with two runs in the bottom of the first and added another run in the second.
IPFW broke the game open when it scored six runs in the top of the fourth. After a leadoff walk to Emily Olszewski and an IUPUI error, Pevely drove home a run on a single up the middle. Another Jags error led to an RBI single from DeLong. Sierra Miranda scored when the throw home by the Jaguar shortstop was late off a Taylor Lyman groundball. The final runs for the 'Dons came when Balthazor hit a 1-2 pitch to left-center that got by a diving IUPUI fielder, scoring two runs.
The Jaguars scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff single led to an IPFW error.
Sarah Lazarowich picked up her fifth win of the season, throwing a complete game.
IPFW travels to Toledo for a non-league doubleheader on April 20 with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m.
