IPFW scored four more runs in the seventh inning to lead 7-1. In the seventh, senior Evan VanSumeren (1-5, RBI), Kaiser and Logan each provided run-scoring singles, while Whitman contributed a sacrifice fly RBI. VanSumeren drove in junior Jackson Boyce (2-4), who had also singled; Kaiser plated senior Brandon Soat (1-4), who had singled, as well; Logan drove home Kaiser and Whitman scored VanSumeren. The Mastodons added a final run in the ninth inning when Kaiser walked and later crossed the plate via an RBI single by Valenzuela-Reece.
Pease (1-1) started for IPFW and pitched the first 5.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Junior Jordan Martin tossed an inning of relief, allowing one hit and one run, unearned, with no strikeouts and no walks. Redshirt-junior Jake Weber (5) hurled the final 3.0 scoreless innings for the Mastodons to earn his fifth save of the season, yielding three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
