Scouting the Mastodons
Fort Wayne men's soccer (4-3-0) had an unexpected off day on Saturday when their contest at Dayton was canceled due to unplayable field conditions. The 'Dons are averaging 2.00 goals per match. Oscar Uyamadu and Thilo Körperich are tied for the team lead in goals with four.
Scouting the Vaqueros
The UTRGV (2-2-1) program was relaunched in 2015 after last being on the field in 1997. They went 5-12-1 last year in their return campaign. The Vaqueros are coming off a 1-0 double overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 11. The roster features 11 student-athletes from Texas, seven from Finland, two from Poland and one each from Denmark, Greece and New Zealand.
Series History
The 'Dons traveled to Edinburg last season for a two-match tournament. Fort Wayne topped Houston Baptist 2-1 and UTRGV 3-2. The winning goal against UTRGV came with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
Korperich Earns Summit League Honor
Senior Thilo Körperich earned his first career Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honor on Monday. He had two goals against Bradley, including the game-winner in overtime as well as another goal against Evansville.
Homecoming For Dowling
UTRGV assistant coach Donovan Dowling was a goalkeeper for the Mastodons from 2009-10. He made 145 career saves with six career shutouts in his time as a Mastodon.
Last Time Out
Thanks to a pair of goals by Oscar Uyamadu, the Mastodons dispatched of the Northern Kentucky Norse 2-0 on Wednesday. It was the second shutout of the season for the 'Dons and the first career blank sheet for goalkeeper Jorge Trujillo.
Looking Ahead
The 'Dons dip into Summit League play next week with a road contest at Denver on Saturday (Sept. 24). The match against the reigning Summit League champs will start at 9 p.m. ET.
