Mastodons Fall to Chicago State And Canisius In Georgia
2/24/2017 11:35:00 PM | Baseball
Chicago State 7, Fort Wayne 5
Of the 12 runs scored in the game, nine came in the game's final two and a half innings.
A pinch hit two-run home run by Travis Upp in the seventh inning put the Mastodons up 3-2. But Chicago State responded with a pair of two-out runs in the top of the eighth to go up 4-3. In the bottom of the eighth, Fort Wayne tied it up on a Brandon Yoho RBI single. It was a 4-4 game entering the ninth when a three spot by the Cougars put the game away. The 'Dons pushed one across in the ninth, but couldn't get any closer.
Jake Weber and Brock Logan each had three hits for the 'Dons.
Tanner Hart took the loss and is 0-1 after throwing the ninth inning. Chicago State's Joe Baier threw two innings to get the win. He is 1-0.
Canisius 8, Fort Wayne 4
Fort Wayne scored single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to erase a three-run Canisius first inning and tie the game. However a five-run seventh by the Golden Griffins would decide the game.
Fort Wayne's first run of the game came on a solo shot by Robert Young III in the third inning. He and Jake Weber finished with multiple hits in the game. Brandon Yoho knocked in three runs.
Dalton O'Boyle earned the loss in relief. He is now 0-1. Will Frank picked up the win in relief for Canisius, tossing the final 2.1 innings.
The 'Dons are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 25) when they play NJIT at 3 p.m. ET.
