Fort Wayne Baseball Rallies For 5-3 Win Over NJIT

EMERSON, Ga. – Fort Wayne held NJIT scoreless for the final seven innings as the Mastodons earned a 5-3 victory over the Highlanders on Saturday (Feb. 25) at the Perfect Game Complex.
NJIT opened the game with a two-spot in the top of the first. It was quickly erased by the 'Dons in the bottom half of the inning as Fort Wayne scored two runs of their own. Travis Upp had a two-RBI single in the frame.
The Highlanders tallied a run in the second inning to go up 3-2, but it would be their final lead of the game. Garrett Mohler scored on an RBI single by Brock Logan in the fourth to tie the game. The 'Dons went up for good in the sixth when a Shannon Baker RBI fielder's choice made the score 4-3. Fort Wayne added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI sacrifice fly by Jackson Boyce.
Brady Hettinger had four hits for the 'Dons.
Damian Helm started and earned a no-decision after five innings of work. Josh Van Beek didn't allow a run in the sixth to pick up the win. Brandon Phelps threw three shutout innings to pick his first save of the year.
NJIT falls to 1-3 with the loss. Fort Wayne is now 3-4. The 'Dons return to action on Sunday (Feb. 26) against Canisius.
