Mastodons Win Monday Night Fútbol At Valpo 2-1
9/18/2017 9:33:00 PM | Men's Soccer
VALPARAISO, Ind. – Fort Wayne men's soccer never trailed in their 2-1 win at Missouri Valley Conference member Valparaiso on Monday (Sept. 18) evening at Brown Field.
The Mastodons went up 1-0 with a goal in the fifth minute. Oscar Uyamadu scored on a header, assisted by Adam Gannon. The tally was Uyamadu's second goal of the season and 14th of his career.
It stayed 1-0 until the 'Dons put another on the board just over five minutes into the second half. Chris Baranowski knocked in a Valpo deflection. It was the freshman's first collegiate goal.
Valpo would respond with a goal of their own. Their tally came at 59:15 when Michael Crushing scored. However the 'Dons held on over the final 30 minutes to earn the win.
Will Hathaway made seven saves for the 'Dons to earn the win in goal.
Valpo falls to 3-3-1 on the year. Fort Wayne improves to 2-4-3. The 'Dons have had the better of the Crusaders of late, now winning two of the last three meetings. That total doesn't include a win over Valpo in an exhibition earlier this year.
Fort Wayne is back in action on Saturday (Sept. 23) when Western Illinois comes to the Hefner Soccer Complex. Kick is set for 7 p.m. in the Summit League opener for the 'Dons.
