Konchar Records 1,000th Rebound In 106-45 Win Over Siena Heights

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Senior John Konchar recorded his 1,000th career rebound in Purdue Fort Wayne's 106-45 victory over Siena Heights on Thursday (Dec. 20). It was Purdue Fort Wayne's final non-league game of the season. The 'Dons made 20 3-pointers in the game and had only three turnovers.
Konchar entered the game with 998 career rebounds. He finished with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting with seven assists and no turnovers. He had 10 rebounds to bring his career total to 1,008. Konchar, already the program leader in rebounds, is the fourth student-athlete in Summit League history to reach 1,000 rebounds. It is Konchar's sixth double-double in his last seven games. He now has 42 career double-doubles.
The Mastodons scored the final 11 points of the first half to take a 47-27 lead to halftime. Marcus DeBerry recorded 12 of his 17 points in the first half. Purdue Fort Wayne started the second half scoring another 11 consecutive points.
The 'Dons committed only three turnovers in the contest. The last time the 'Dons committed three or fewer in a game was Feb. 8, 2003 against Youngstown State when the 'Dons had three against the Penguins.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished the game 20-of-46 from beyond the arc. The 'Dons shot 50.7 percent (37-of-73) from the floor while limiting Siena Heights to 29.0 percent (18-of-62) shooting.
Kason Harrell and Matt Weir each had 16 points. Matt Holba added 15 points, all in the second half. Jarred Godfrey totaled 14 points.
The 'Dons move to 8-7.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action Dec. 28 in the Summit League opener at North Dakota. It will be the first Summit League ever for the Fighting Hawks.
