Down 8-4 entering the final frame, the 'Dons got cooking in the ninth thanks to three walks in the inning. A Shannon Baker walk forced home a run to make it 8-5. Jacob Dickson had a two-RBI, two-out single two batters later to make the score 8-7. Robert Young III, who entered for Baker as a pinch runner, moved to third on the single but would be stranded at third following a Butler pitching change for the final out.
The 'Dons had a 4-1 lead in the game after three and a half innings. Mike Snyder hit a two-run home run in the fourth that scored Zak Kellogg. Unearned runs would do the 'Dons in. Shane Odzark started for the 'Dons and went 5.2 innings, but only two of the seven runs he allowed were earned. The one run Trevor Armstrong allowed was also unearned.
Odzark suffered the loss (0-4). Connor Schultz received the win in relief for Butler. He is 2-0 after giving up one hit in 4.2 innings. Kevin Napoleon threw the final out of the game to earn his first save.
Butler improves to 12-2. Fort Wayne falls to 4-9. The 'Dons return to action on Tuesday (March 13) at Bowling Green.
