Mavericks Grab Summit League Opener Doubleheader From Fort Wayne

OMAHA, Neb. – Fort Wayne opened the Summit League baseball season on Saturday (March 17) at Omaha. The two clubs were originally scheduled for a single game on Saturday. However better than expected weather and the turf field of Creighton Prep High School allowed two games to be played.
Game One – Omaha 15, Fort Wayne 0
The two clubs played a scoreless first inning but the Mavericks broke on the scoreboard in the second inning with four runs. The Mavericks put the game away with a five-run third inning.
Jacob Dickson recorded two hits for the Mastodons including a double.
Brandon Phelps started and took the loss. He is 2-1. Joey Machado threw six innings for the Mavericks. He is now 1-3. Braden Rogers had three hits and three runs scored for the Mavericks.
Game Two – Omaha 7, Fort Wayne 0
Omaha went up early thanks to a three-spot in the first inning. It stayed 3-0 until the fifth when Omaha added a single run. They closed out the scoring with three insurance runs in the eighth.
Dickson recorded a double and a walk.
Fort Wayne starter Damian Helm is 2-3 after throwing 5.0 innings. Spencer Koelewyn went 6.0 innings to move his record to 1-1.
Omaha improves to 6-12 (2-0 Summit League). Fort Wayne falls to 4-11 (0-2 Summit League). The two clubs will close out the series on Sunday.
