Maria Palmegiani, Morganne Denny and Lacey Wilzbacher all collected two hits on the day. Denny and Lauren Watson each scored twice, and Stephanie Hanic led the team with two RBIs.
In the first game of the day against Mercer, Fort Wayne jumped on top early, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Palmegiani doubled to left center, scoring Denny. Hanic followed with a double to the gap of her own, scoring Palmegiani from third.
After the Bears took the lead in the second on a home run, the 'Dons tied it in the third when Wilzbacher doubled to left center, scoring Watson. Mercer took back the lead for good in the bottom of the third scoring two runs, before adding 12 runs in the fourth.
Shaina Eyre took the loss in the circle for the Mastodons, throwing three innings and striking out three batters. Demitra Burns came on to pitch the final inning.
The 'Dons went out in front in game two against the Owls, scoring twice in the first inning. Watson struck out to begin the game, but instead of being out, she went all the way around the bases thanks to KSU errors, and scoring. Later, Hanic brought home a run following a pair of singles from Denny and Palmegiani.
The Owls tied the game in the second on a two-run home run. Fort Wayne went back into the lead when Wilzbacher came home after pinch runner Sydney Windlan stole second. KSU got a solo home run in the fifth to tie it, before the Owls won it on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
Bailey Benefiel suffered the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out five in 6 1-3 innings.
Due to potential weather, the tournament schedule was changed for tomorrow, March 10. Fort Wayne will now face Kennesaw State at 8 a.m. followed by Bucknell at noon.
