FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 15 Fort Wayne men's volleyball team travels to Lewis this weekend for its MIVA Quarterfinal matchup on Saturday (April 14).

SCOUTING FORT WAYNE
Fort Wayne travels to Lewis as the No. 5 seed in the MIVA Tournament after finishing the regular season 18-10, 6-8 MIVA. The Mastodons are led by sophomore Pelegrin Vargas, who leads the team and MIVA in kills and kills per set. Michael Keegan is pacing the Mastodon offense, as he holds 853 assists on the season. Fort Wayne is ranked No. 15 in the AVCA Top 15.
SCOUTING LEWIS
Lewis comes in at No. 10 in the AVCA Top 15 Coaches Poll, and holds an 18-10, 9-5 MIVA record. The Flyers are led by Ryan Coenen, who has 3.74 kills per set, hitting .302. Matt Yoshimoto leads the team with 804 assists and 34 aces. The Flyers took the No. 4 seed, holding a three-match lead over Fort Wayne.
VARGAS ALL-MIVA
Pelegrin Vargas was selected to the First Team All-MIVA, averaging 3.76 kills per set to lead the Mastodons and the conference during the regular season. This clip was ninth in the country. He hit .275 on the year, while also adding 26 aces, which was second-best on the Fort Wayne squad. Last season, Vargas was selected for the MIVA All-Freshmen team.
KEEGAN ALL-MIVA
Michael Keegan was selected to the Second Team All-MIVA, pacing the Mastodons' offense with 853 assists, and leading the 'Dons to a .266 team hitting clip for the year. His career assist total of 2,588 is seventh in program history. Keegan also led Fort Wayne in digs per set with 2.30, with only one reception error on the year. He had eight double-doubles for Fort Wayne in 2018, which tied the most in a single season by a Mastodon in the rally scoring era.
GAGO ALL-MIVA
Tomas Gago earned a spot on the Second Team All-MIVA and All-Freshmen Team, finishing with 0.98 blocks per set, which led the Fort Wayne squad. He had the highest hitting percentage of all Mastodons on the team who had at least 100 attacks with .357. He finished the year with 138 kills and 20 digs.
EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS
Fort Wayne was picked to finish seventh in the league in the MIVA preseason poll. The Mastodons finished fifth in the regular season with a 6-8 conference record, beating McKendree in the head-to-head tiebreaker.
TOMAS IS ON FIRE
Tomas Gago combined for 18 kills against Quincy and Lindenwood, while hitting .818 between the two matches. In the match against Quincy, he hit 9-0-10, tying the third-highest hitting percentage in the NCAA this season when having at least 10 attempts.
MOVING UP THE RANKINGS
Michael Keegan has 2,588 career assists, putting him in seventh place all-time. He needs 101 to pass Colin Lundeen and move into sixth.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Michael Keegan has eight double-doubles on the season after a 24 assist/13 dig performance at No. 10 Lewis. His eight double-doubles ties him for the most in a single season in the rally scoring era. C.J. Macias had eight in 2006. Keegan pushed his career double-double total to 16, with 12 of them coming on the road.
THERE'S GONNA BE SO MUCH WINNING
Fort Wayne has 13 more wins than last season. This is the most improved win total in the nation from the 2017 season to 2018.
ATTAINING 600
With a 3-0 sweep over No. 14 Concordia Irvine, the Mastodons reached 600 program victories. Fort Wayne is the only program that began in 1980 or later that has eclipsed this threshold. The 500th win came in 2011 by way of a 3-0 win over Carthage.
ON THAT UC IRVINE WIN...
Fort Wayne defeated No. 3 UC Irvine on Wednesday, March 7, which was the first top-five win for the program since 2007 when the Mastodons topped No. 1 Pepperdine in the national semifinal. It was the ninth top-five win in program history. The Mastodons topped UCI despite being out-blocked 22.5-7. This was Fort Wayne's first win over a ranked team this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Fort Wayne topped McKendree in three sets at home. Pelegrin Vargas led the 'Dons with 10 kills. Tomas Gago had four blocks, while Kolbie Knorr and Michael Keegan had six digs each.
