One School Record Set And One Tied At Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Emma Rafuse broke a school record in the 5K and Olivia Coleman tied her school record in the long jump on Saturday (April 21) for the Fort Wayne women's track and field team at the Al Owens Classic. Grand Valley State hosted the event.
Emma Rafuse used a time of 16:46.97 to win the 5K. She broke Crystal Martinez' mark of 17:05.80 set in 2009.
Olivia Coleman tied her long jump school record thanks to a leap of 5.53 meters. She finished second in the event. Coleman also ran a season-best time of 58.88 in the 400 meters to take 10th. Tyra Hunt was 12th, setting a personal record with a time of 59.73.
Jala Smith set a pair of PRs, recording a time of 13.02 in the 100 and 26.75 in the 200. Jenna Quillen stopped the clock in 26.84 for a PR in the 200.
In their first time throwing the discus, Hannah Jennings recorded a mark of 25.34 meters while Tori VanDiepenbos recorded a toss of 20.25 meters.
Fort Wayne finished eighth with 18 points. Grand Valley State won the team competition.
The 'Dons are back in action on Saturday (April 28) at Miami's Redhawk Invitational. It will be the final meet before the Summit League Outdoor Championships.
