Fort Wayne was first on the board. Young doubled to leadoff the game and came around on an error two batters later. It was a 1-0 game until the fourth when the 'Dons scored a pair of runs. Zak Kellogg doubled in Brady Hettinger with two outs. Kellogg then came around on a passed ball.
NDSU scored two in the fifth to make the score 3-2 and then knotted it in the sixth at 3-3. Fort Wayne quickly responded in the seventh when Young opened the inning with his seventh home run of the season.
NDSU took the lead for good in their half of the seventh as the Bison scored three runs.
The ninth saw the 'Dons score a run and bring the tying run to the plate, but Fort Wayne couldn't complete the comeback.
Chase Phelps started for the 'Dons. He earned a no-decision after allowing three runs (one earned) in 6.0 innings of work. Trevor Armstrong took the loss for the 'Dons. He is now 0-4. Chris Choles (3-0) received the win for NDSU. Kevin Folman (6) picked up the save.
Young, Mike Snyder and Kellogg each had a double and a single for the 'Dons.
NDSU improves to 22-22 (12-13 Summit League). Fort Wayne falls to 10-34 (6-21 Summit League). The 'Dons play their final non-conference game on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. start at Ball State.
