Men's Soccer Takes Down Indiana Tech 4-2 In Tune-Up Match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Freshman Ryan Bernt scored a pair of first half goals to lift the Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team to a 4-2 exhibition victory over Indiana Tech on Tuesday (Aug. 14) evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex.

Bernt scored in the 32nd minute from just a few yards out. Blake Cearns assisted on the goal. Two minutes later Bernt drove in and placed a shot between the keeper's legs to make the score 2-0.

Indiana Tech cut the lead in half with a goal by Brennan Cochran in the 52^nd minute. But soon after Alex Joneson powered a shot from 20 yards out to make the score 3-1. Cochran scored again for the Warriors to make it 3-2.

Purdue Fort Wayne put the game away in the 72^nd minute. Andy O'Donoghue booted a pass from far past midfield. The Indiana Tech keeper rushed out of his net to chase it down but Blake Cearns beat the keeper to it, and headed it into the goal.

The Mastodons will continue exhibition play on Friday (Aug. 17) in a 7 p.m. start with Valparaiso at Hefner. It will be a doubleheader at the field as the Purdue Fort Wayne women host Ball State at five in the first regular season contest of the year for the Mastodons.
