Men's Soccer Season Opener Set For Friday Night

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS (0-0-0, 0-0-0 Summit League)
The Mastodons enter Friday night's opener looking for their third consecutive positive result in an opener. The 'Dons defeated Saint Joseph's 4-0 in 2016 and tied Wright State in 2017. The 'Dons earned a 4-2 win over Indiana Tech in an exhibition on Aug. 14.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (0-0-0, 0-0-0 Crossroads League)
Marian opens the 2018 season on Friday after going 5-11-0 (2-7-0 Crossroads) last season. Their victories came over Olivet Nazarene, Oakland City, Salem International, Bethel and Saint Francis (IN). Jeffrey Rhodes and Hamaed Sidibe return for Marian this season after they each scored three goals last year.

I KNOW YOU
Former Mastodon Corey Tom is an assistant coach for the Knights. Tom was an all-league performer for the 'Dons, playing from 2012-15. He will be coaching against his brother as his younger brother as Zach Tom is a senior for the Mastodons.

SERIES HISTORY
The last time the two clubs played was Aug. 22, 2007 in an exhibition. It was Mike Harper's first game as Mastodon head coach. the 'Dons won the contest 1-0. The 'Dons and Knights played one regular season contest, a 1-0 win for the 'Dons on Oct. 17, 1981.

THE 2018 SLATE
The 'Dons will play non-league games against teams from seven different Division I conferences. The top four teams in the Summit League standings at the end of the season will qualify for the Summit League Championship hosted by Denver Nov. 9th and 11th.

UP NEXT
The 'Dons continue play on Monday (Aug. 27) in a non-league match vs. Wright State. The game will have a 7 p.m. start.
