SCOUTING THE MASTODONS (4-3-0, 0-0-0 Summit):
The 'Dons are looking to add another win to their record after a convincing 3-0 win over Northern Kentucky last Monday. Romain Lopez earned his second goal of the season off of an assist from Chris Baranowski and Alex Frank. Baranowski also assisted Blake Cearns with both of his goals to give the 'Dons a 3-0 lead. Freshman keeper Tor Erik Larsen picked up his first career shutout with five saves.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS (1-4-2, 0-0-0 MAC):
The Falcons are coming off of a 2-0 loss to Cleveland State last Tuesday. Ebenezer Ackon leads the team with two goals on the season so far. Senior Tate Robertson leads the team with four assists, with four other Falcons having earned one assist each. In the goal, Anthony Mwembia totaled 18 saves. BGSU has outshot the opponent and has taken as many or more corner kicks than the opponent in five of the first six matches of the season. BGSU has had more shots on goal than the foes in four matches, and the Falcons have a 30-24 advantage in that department this year to date.
SERIES HISTORY:
Bowling Green leads the all-time series 9-6-2. The 'Dons have earned a win in each of the last two meetings. The 'Dons won 2-1 last year at Bowling Green. The last game in Fort Wayne came in 2016 with the 'Dons winning 2-1. Each of the last four games between the two teams have been one-goal decisions.
'DONS ON THE DOUBLE:
Saturday's game will be the second soccer game of the day at Purdue Fort Wayne. The Mastodon women will host Chicago State at 3 p.m.
SCORING FRENZY:
The 'Dons have 20 goals on the season, two more than the 18 they scored all of last year. Matthew Lieshout is third in the league and leads the team with six goals. Blake Cearns follows closely behind with five goals on the season so far. The Mastodons are tied for third in all of Division I for most goals per game.
A LITTLE MORE ON THAT NKU WIN:
- Purdue Fort Wayne handed NKU only their second loss of the season.
- Chris Baranowski had three assists in the game. The last time a Mastodon had three assists in a single game was Oct. 14, 2005 when Ben Springman had three against Wright State.
- The 'Dons kept NKU's Alex Willis off the board. He entered the game with eight goals, including a national player of the week award this year.
- It was the first time NKU was shutout this season.
