Richner Leads 'Dons on Day One of Chippewa Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - Behind an opening day score of 79 from Linnzie Richner on Monday (Oct. 21), Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf sits one shot back of host Central Michigan with a 323 at the Chippewa Invite.
Richner bookended her day with pars on one and 18, and sandwiched 10 more pars in between for her 79. She finished day one in a tie for 27th place. Holly Anderson carded an 80, using two birdies on the front and seven pars on the back for a path to tie for 32nd place. She birdied the par-four sixth and the par-five eighth.
Sarah Lewis had one of only two eagles in the field in the opening day of play, which came on the 488-yard par-five 14th. She coupled that with a birdie on nine to shoot an 82 for a tie for 47th place with teammate Emma Schroeder. Schroeder brought in an 82 as well, knocking in a pair of birdie-fours on the back nine.
Kennedy Brooker turned in an 84 for a tie for 61st place. She parred seven holes in the opening 18, and birdieing her last hole. Luiza Caetano competed as an individual carding an 88 for tie for 73rd place.
Western Michigan leads the pack as a team with a 300 (+12). Grand Valley State's Katie Chipman and Toledo's Saranlak Tumfong are tied for the lead individually with a pair of even-par 72's.
The final round of the Chippewa Invite will take place tomorrow (Oct. 22) with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
