FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Eastern Illinois' first half goal ended up being the difference in Purdue Fort Wayne's men's soccer setback to the Panthers on Saturday (Nov. 2) on a chilly evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
The Mastodons out-shot the Panthers 14-9, including a 12-6 advantage in the second half. Blake Cearns hit the right post in the 48th minute for the Mastodons as the 'Dons looked for the equalizer after an EIU goal in the 31st minute. A shot by Ryan Bernt was stopped in the 70th minute for the 'Dons. The Mastodons nearly had a goal in the final minute when Alex Frank took aim at the bottom left of the goal but EIU goalkeeper Jonathan Burke dove to his right to deflect the shot near the post.
