
McConnell Named Summit League Pitcher of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Purdue Fort Wayne freshman pitcher Lauren McConnell has been named the Summit League Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday (Feb. 11).
McConnell becomes the first Mastodon freshman in program history to earn Summit League Player of the Week honors in the first week of a season. The Mastodons have won the first Pitcher of the Week honor for the second consecutive season, after Bailey Benefiel earned the honor last season.
McConnell went 1-1 while not allowing an earned run in 14 1-3 innings of work in her first week in the circle for the Mastodons. She struck out eight while only walking three. Of the 12 hits she allowed on the week, none were for extra bases.
She picked up her first career win in her first appearance. McConnell came on in relief to earn the 'Dons a 3-1 win over Evansville. She threw five innings, not allowing a run, scattering five hits and striking out five. McConnell again came on in relief against Detroit Mercy, throwing 4 1-3 innings, while surrendering one unearned run on three hits. In her final appearance, she started and threw five innings in a 1-0 loss to DePaul. She allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out three.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action Friday, February 15 against Western Carolina at the Black & Gold Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama.
