Mastodons Suffer One-Run Loss To Alabama State 10-9

The 'Dons tied the game at two with a pair of runs in the second inning. Jacob Dickson had a sacrifice fly and Camden Nisenson doubled in Alec Brunson to tie the game. Alabama State responded with four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-2 lead. The 'Dons rallied back with single runs in the third and fourth. Then the 'Dons put up five in the fifth. All five runs scored with two outs. First it was Trenton Stoner delivering a single to score a pair. Dickson then came around on a wild pitch. Stoner then scored on an error and Jack Lang came around on a bases loaded walk.
It was a 9-8 Mastodon lead entering the bottom of the ninth but the Hornets scored two runs to earn the walkoff victory.
Robert Young III finished with two hits, two runs scored and a walk. Stoner scored twice in addition to his two RBI. He also walked twice and was hit by a pitch.
Justin Miller suffered the loss. He is 0-1. The Hornets' Jeremy Rivera threw the final 3.2 innings and earned the win. He is 1-0.
The Hornets are now 5-1. The 'Dons are 4-3. Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action on Friday (March 1) at Southeast Missouri State.
