Mastodons Keep Rollin’ In 79-64 Win Over Western Illinois

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Five Mastodons hit double-digits in Purdue Fort Wayne's 79-64 victory over Western Illinois on Thursday (Feb. 7) evening at the Allen Country War Memorial Coliseum. Purdue Fort Wayne has won four straight games and is a victory away from guaranteeing a winning record in league play this year.
Jarred Godfrey had a game-high 17 points on 7-of-7 shooting. He added two assists and no turnovers. As a team the 'Dons recorded only seven turnovers in the game while forcing 15 Western Illinois mistakes.
Matt Holba and Marcus DeBerry each had 13 points. Kason Harrell totaled 11 and John Konchar had 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Dylan Carl totaled 10 rebounds.
Purdue Fort Wayne led 40-39 with 15:45 left in the second half and then scored seven straight points to earn some breathing room. WIU never advanced within a possession again.
The 'Dons had 30 points in the paint and earned 38 points from the bench.
Brandon Gilbeck had 12 points, 16 rebounds and 10 blocks for Western Illinois. It is the first triple-double by a Summit League player since the Mastodons' Demetrius Johnson did so on Dec. 8, 2007 against UMKC.
The Mastodons improve to 16-10 (8-3 Summit League). Western Illinois falls to 8-16 (3-8 Summit League). The 'Dons take a week off before returning to action on Thursday (Feb. 14) at Denver.
