Softball Wraps Up Racer Classic

MURRAY, Ky. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball wrapped up the Racer Classic Monday (March 11), as the Mastodons fell to UNI 6-1, before dropping their final game to host Murray State 2-0.
The opener saw Northern Iowa score a pair of unearned runs in the third. The Panthers added two more in the sixth and one in the seventh. The 'Dons scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth when Brooke Imel reached on an infield single with the bases loaded, scoring Rachel Everson from third. Five different Mastodons had a hit in the game.
Alyssa Malicki took the loss, throwing seven innings and allowing one earned run on six hits.
Game two was a pitchers duel from the start, as each team was limited to three hits on the afternoon. Alise Hale collected two of the Mastodons' hits, while Lauren Watson had the other. Purdue Fort Wayne starting pitcher Shaina Eyre held the Racers to one hit through four innings. Murray State was able to push across a pair of runs in the fifth on a single and a suicide squeeze.
Eyre threw a complete game in the loss, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action March 15-17 at the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee.
