‘Dons Take Series From Omaha

Game One – Purdue Fort Wayne 6, Omaha 5 (8 innings)
The first two innings were played on Friday with the 'Dons and Mavericks tied at three. The third inning continued the offensive theme as both clubs put up two runs on the board. It stayed a 5-5 game until the bottom of the eighth.
Brooke Imel opened the eighth with a single. Lexi Smalarz popped up a foul ball on the right side of the field. Omaha's first baseman came diving in to make a nice play for the first out of the inning. But Imel, seeing the fielder on the ground, took advantage and tagged up to second base. Four pitches later Imel came around for the game winning run on a single by Watson.
Watson, Lacey Wilzbacher and Smalarz each had two hits in the contest. Alyssa Malicki threw four scoreless innings to get the win. Sydney Hampton suffered the loss for Omaha in relief.
Game Two – Omaha 9, Purdue Fort Wayne 4
Omaha won game two thanks to a five spot in the third inning. The 'Dons were first on the scoreboard thanks to a single run in the first on a Sydney Windlan RBI.
The 'Dons would add three runs in the ninth. Watson had three hits and two runs scored. Windlan totaled three RBI in the contest. Purdue Fort Wayne brought the tying run to the on deck circle but left the bases loaded to end the game.
Hailey Jones received the win for Omaha. Alexa Sedlak had a grand slam for the Mavs. Alyssa Malicki suffered the loss for the 'Dons.
Game Three – Purdue Fort Wayne 6, Omaha 4
Purdue Fort Wayne delivered 11 hits in the finale of the series. Three of the hits were home runs. Sydney Windlan opened the second inning with a home run, Morganne Denny hit a solo home run over the centerfield wall in the fifth and Lexi Smalarz started the sixth with a home run.
Wilzbacher, Alise Hale and Denny each had two hits in the game.
The 'Dons never trailed after taking a 3-1 lead following the second inning.
Lauren McConnell went the distance for the 'Dons. She gave up two earned runs in 7.0 innings for the win. Sydney Hampton received the loss for Omaha.
The Mastodons are back in action on Tuesday (April 16) at home against Western Michigan. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Omaha is now 4-35 (2-10 Summit). The 'Dons are 9-28 (3-9 Summit).
