Mastodon Softball Falls to SDSU in Game Three

BROOKINGS, S.D. - Purdue Fort Wayne softball dropped the third game in its series at South Dakota State 6-4 on Easter Sunday (April 21).
The Mastodons got on the board in the top of the first inning by way of Rachel Everson taking a walk to advance Sydney Windlan home. The Jackrabbits answered in the bottom of the opening frame with four runs, three of them coming on a triple to right field.
The 'Dons evened the score with three runs in the top of the second thanks to Lexi Smalarz singling Brooke Imel in and Morganne Denny batting in Smalarz and Abby Baez in on a single.
SDSU took the lead it would hold for the remainder of the game in the bottom of the second on a single to right field. The Jacks scored their final run of the day in the bottom of the third on a single up the middle.
Alyssa Malicki (3-11) was the pitcher of record for the Mastodons, while Taylor Compton earned the win for the Jackrabbits. Emma Hardin picked up the save. Lauren McConnell pitched for the last two innings in relief, seeing only seven batters. She only allowed one hit and no runs.
The Mastodons fall to 8-33 (3-12 Summit) while SDSU improves to 29-12 (8-4 Summit). The 'Dons are back in action at Western Illinois on Saturday (April 27) with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
