Alec Brunson, Brandon Yoho, Garrett Mohler and Austin Wilkie each had two hits in the game.
The Mastodons scored two runs in the first inning when Mohler doubled in Brunson and Travis Upp knocked in Yoho with a ground out.
The 'Dons fell behind 10-2 after three innings thanks to a seven-run second by NDSU. But the 'Dons responded with a five-run fourth to make the score 10-7. In the fourth, Brunson and Yoho each had an RBI but the big hit was a bases loaded triple by Aaron Chapman. But in the end the NDSU offense was too much.
Ben Smith (4-2) got the win for NDSU. Cameron Boyd (0-11) suffered the loss. Carter Thompson had four hits for NDSU.
The series finale is set for Sunday.
