ABOUT THE MASTODONS:
The Mastodons play their final exhibition contest of the 2019 campaign on Sunday, August 25 in a 5 p.m. kick at Valparaiso. Purdue Fort Wayne picked up a 2-1 victory over Indiana Tech in a tune-up match last week. Blake Cearns had a goal and an assist in the contest. Emil Fosse, picked as a "player to watch" by the Summit League's head coaches, saw his first action as a Mastodon in the contest.
ABOUT THE CRUSADERS:
This will be Valparaiso's only exhibition contest of the year. Valpo heads to Green Bay on Aug. 30 to open the regular season against the Phoenix. Five of Valpo's first six games are on the road away from "The Region". The Crusaders will have a new goaltender this year as Nacho Miras has graduated. He played 1435 of 1638 minutes last year, notching a goals against average of 1.13.
SAVES ON SAVES:
Tor Erik Larsen finished 2018 with 91 saves, which was first in the Summit League and eighth in the country.
GET USED TO THE FORT:
Six of Purdue Fort Wayne's first seven regular season matches are at home.
ON THE HORIZON:
The Mastodons play five opponents (IUPUI, Green Bay, Wright State, Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky) in non-league play this year that will be Horizon League foes next year.
SERIES HISTORY:
Valpo leads the series all-time 14-5. The two clubs tried to play an exhibition last year but it was canceled due to weather. The last time the two clubs played a regular season contest was Sept. 18, 2017 when the 'Dons pulled out a 2-1 victory in Valparaiso.
PARTY AT THE PITCH:
The Mastodons host Belmont on Friday, Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. The Purdue Fort Wayne women host Valparaiso at 7 p.m. It will be a special day at the Hefner Soccer Complex as it will be the first ever Party At The Pitch with food trucks and food for students. Members of the 1999 men's soccer team will be recognized. Student Activities Board and Student Government Association are co-sponsoring the event.
