Women's Soccer Faces Off Against Morehead State on Sunday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team will head over to Kentucky to play against the Morehead State Eagles on Sunday (Sept. 29) at 2 p.m. for their final non-conference matchup. The Mastodons have not seen the Eagles since 2006.

Scouting the Mastodons (4-3-2, 0-0-0 Summit League)
Purdue Fort Wayne is coming into the match after a loss against the Indiana State Sycamores. The Mastodons fell to ISU 3-0 on Sunday (Sept. 22). Kate Face from Indiana State scored the first and game winning goal for the Sycamores at the 56th minute after a breakaway. Lauren Lawrence, Kailyn Wade and Isabelle Wissel all contributed one shot on goal apiece and Morgan Reitano took three shots to try and score for the 'Dons. Purdue Fort Wayne also took a loss against the Ball State Cardinals (4-0) on Friday (Sept. 20). Reitano and Kayla Wisniewski took one shot on goal each to try and score for the Mastodons.
Scouting the Eagles (2-6-1, 1-0-1 Ohio Valley Conference)
The Eagles are coming off of a shutout win against Jacksonville State (1-0) on Sunday (Sept. 22). Freshman Eva Kiper scored for the Eagles at the 66th minute. The Eagles tallied six shots on goal and goalkeeper Kayla Landman had four saves. Before taking on Jacksonville State, the Eagles played against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on September 20 and ended in a 1-1 tie. No goals were scored in the first half. The Golden Eagles were the first to score and it wasn't until the 81st minute when Nora Vicsek found the back of the net. Morehead State came back shortly after with a goal at the 86th.
13 Years Later ...
It has been 13 years since Purdue Fort Wayne has faced off against Morehead State in women's soccer. The 'Dons lead the series 2-1 against Morehead State. In 2006, the Mastodons fell to the Eagles 1-0. Lindsey Stefanini scored for the Eagles at the 31st minute. Stefanini shot from 30 yards out. Purdue Fort Wayne won the match in 2004 with a score of 2-1. Jenna Tulley was the first to score for the Mastodons. Less than ten minutes later, Elise Wahlstrom for Morehead state scored off of a deflection. It wasn't over for the Mastodons and Kristy Arnett scored off of her own rebound to give Purdue Fort Wayne the win.
Nine is Fine
Purdue Fort Wayne is having its best start to a season through nine games in program history with a record of 4-3-2 before conference play. The stretch includes a six-match unbeaten streak. They won against Chicago State (1-0), Eastern Illinois (1-0), Valparaiso (2-0) and Detroit Mercy (2-0). All matches that the 'Dons have won were shutouts. The Mastodons had their first tie of the season against Robert Morris on August 25 with a score of 1-1. They also tied Southern Illinois (1-1),
No Goals For You
With nine games so far in the season, goalkeeper Lorah Pund has already collected four shutouts. Pund's first shutout was against Chicago State in the Windy City. Pund helped the 'Dons walk away with a 1-0 win. She also kept Eastern Illinois scoreless in another 1-0 win. Pund held Valparaiso scoreless in a 2-0 victory and most recently kept Detroit Mercy away from scoring on September 15 with a 2-0 win. Pund has recorded 34 saves so far this season.
