Anderson Ties 36-Hole Record; 'Dons in Second

YPSILANTI, Mich. - In the opening day of the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational, Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf junior Holly Anderson tied the 36-hole individual record with a 72-74-146. As a team, the Mastodons finished day one in a tie for second place, just five shots back of the lead with a 303-298-601.
Anderson tied the 36-hole individual record that was set by Ashton Taft in 2012 and tied earlier this season by Laura Caetano at the Golfweek Program Championship. Purdue Fort Wayne's 601 is its second-best team score in program history.
Anderson had identical front nines between the two rounds. Her bogey-free front nines were capped off by birdie-fours on number nine. In round one, she birdied 10 with a four. She ended her day with 28 pars. Through the first round, she is in fifth.
Caetano followed closely behind Anderson in a tie for seventh with a 75-73-148. She birdied nine twice, 11 on the first 18, and three and four on the second go-around.
Linnzie Richner is tied for 19th with a 78-74-152. In her first round, she birdied the par-four 11th. In the second 18, she had birdies on two, six and 17, paving the way to a two-over 74.
Kennedy Brooker had two birdies on the day, both in her second round. After 36 holes, she is in a tie for 33rd with a 78-77-155. Emma Schroeder rounded out the Mastodons with a tie for 50th with a 82-78-160. She birdied the par-four 15th in her second round.
Sarah Lewis played as an individual, notching an 86-82-168 for a tie for 68th place.
Mikaela Schulz of Michigan is leading the field with a 68-72-140. She is playing as an individual, as Michigan did not field a full team. Eastern Michigan is leading the team standings with a 299-297-596, just five shots ahead of Purdue Fort Wayne.
The 'Dons are tied with Oakland, and are ahead of three other Horizon League teams.
