Groves Breaks School Record in 500m

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program started off day one at the YSU National Mid-Major on Friday (Jan. 31) with Makaila Groves breaking the school record in the 500m with a time of 1:21.15
Groves placed fifth in the 500m and defeated the previous school record by .5 seconds. Brayden Langdon finished in seventh place and had a time of 1:24.17.
In the 5000m run, Kathy Potter led for the Mastodons with a time of 18:35.97 and ended the race in eighth place. Sophia Hirzel was right behind Potter in ninth place and finished with a time of 18:44.37.
Dylan Kirkwood and Sophia Buck competed in the pentathlon for the first time this season. Kirkwood finished in fourth place with 3,020 points and Buck ended the Pentathlon with 2,636 points.
In the field events for day one, Naomi Ashley led the way in the long jump in third place (5.47m) while Naimah Slaughter was in 12th (5.25m) and Bethany Kelley was 25th (4.80m).
The 'Dons will continue at the YSU National Mid-Major on Saturday (Feb. 1). Events will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET with the men's heptathlon.
