Mastodon Softball Competes in Huddle House Classic This Weekend

MARTIN, Tenn. - The third weekend of the softball season will feature the Purdue Fort Wayne softball team hitting the road to take on Wright State and UT Martin in the Huddle House Classic on February 22 and 23.

Scouting the Raiders
Wright State is 0-5 on the year, with all five coming in the Mercer Invitational. Grace Gressly is leading the team with four hits including two solo homers. The Raiders closest game was an eight-inning game against Dayton, which ended being a 3-2 loss. Last season, Wright State had 22-33, 9-15 in the Horizon League, which was seventh in the League. They were the first team left out of the Horizon League Tournament.
Scouting the Skyhawks
UT Martin is 4-5 this season, with wins over Alabama State (x2), Grambling State and Abilene Christian. Chelsey Gore is leading the team with 13 hits this year, including two triples, which is also a team-high. Shyanne Sheffield has the team's only home run, and has knocked in a team-high seven RBIs. The Skyhawks have split the pitching duties between Hannah Ridolfi, Seeley Layne and Erin Gallagher. Ridolfi has an ERA of 0.91 in 23.0 innings pitched.

The 2020 campaign will be the final for the Mastodons in the Summit League. Next season the Mastodons will join the Horizon League. The longest trip in the Horizon League, Green Bay, at six hours, will match the shortest trip for the Mastodons in the Summit League (Western Illinois). The Mastodons joined the Summit League in 2007-08 making the 2019-20 season their 13th in the League.
