Scouting Lewis
The Lewis Flyers are coming to Fort Wayne after two 3-0 wins at home last weekend. Lewis defeated Quincy on Wednesday (Feb. 19) and Lindenwood on Saturday (Feb. 22) at the Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Ill. The Flyers hit .321 against Lindenwood and .411 against Quincy. Tyler Mitchem had 25 kills and a .735 hitting rate. He averaged 4.17 kills per set and earned his fifth-career MIVA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday (Feb. 24). Lewis has earned the last two consecutive Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week accolades, Mitchem on Tuesday (Feb. 25) Ryan Coenen the week before on Feb. 18.
Scouting McKendree
The Bearcats will head to Arnie Ball Court on Saturday (Feb. 29) after they face off against the Loyola Ramblers on Thursday (Feb. 27). Coming into the week, McKendree took on Lindenwood and Quincy, winning both matches 3-1. Ethan Carroll led the way for the Bearcats and tallied 23 kills for the weekend, helping the team have a hitting percentage of .360.
Flyers vs. 'Dons
It's been almost a year since the 'Dons and Flyers last played each other. On March 21, 2019, the Flyers left Fort Wayne victorious after a 3-2 victory over the Mastodons. The Mastodons' 12.5 team blocks were the most in a match during the 2019 season and was holding the Flyers to .165, which was their second-lowest hitting percentage that year. Then-senior Tony Price had 12 kills and seven digs in his return to the starting lineup
Bearcats vs. 'Dons
Last time the 'Dons and Bearcats met, McKendree headed into the MIVA tournament with a 3-2 win. The Mastodons leaned heavily on Pelegrin Vargas and then-senior Alex Dickmann for the night, as they finished with 25 and 21 kills. Vargas hit .300 and Dickmann hit .325. This was the first duo to have 20 kills each in a Purdue Fort Wayne match since 2015. Purdue Fort Wayne had 67 kills compared to McKendree's 51 on the Bearcats' home floor.
