'Dons Advance to Finals in Three Events in Summit League Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program finished day one of the Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships Presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on Friday (Feb. 28) with two school records and advanced to the finals in three events. The Mastodons are in seventh place as a team. North Dakota State is leading the pack with 79 points.
Ally Bailey ran her way to a school record in the 200m dash with a time of 25.48 and finished in sixth place, qualifying for finals on Saturday (Feb. 29). Bailey also competed in the 400m dash and finished in sixth place with a time of 58.17. She qualified for the finals in the 400m as well. Savannah Girolami was close behind Bailey in the 400m in ninth place and a time of 58.45. Rachel Pierre-Louis was in 13th (59.80) and Katie Clark rounded out for the Mastodons in 15th (1:00.58).
Senior Lexi O'Connell qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.85 for seventh, also coming in as a school record. Dylan Kirkwood was less than one second behind O'Connell in 12th place (9.33) and Payton Waling was in 13th (9.43).
In the 60m dash, Payton McHenry finished in 19th with a time of 8.27. Bethany Kelley was right behind McHenry in 20th and concluded the event in 8.59.
Makaila Groves crossed the finish line first for the Mastodons with a time of 2:19.82 for 10th. Lauren Morales was in 15th (2:33.48) and Brayden Langdon was less than .1 seconds behind Morales in 16th (2:33.55).
Sophia Hirzel was the only 'Don to compete in the 3000m run and finished in 16th and clocked in a time of 10:58.27.
Kenzie Smith, Girolami, Groves and Kathy Potter finished in sixth place in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:56.08.
Naimah Slaughter jumped her way to a mark of 5.50m in the long jump and finished for the Mastodons in eighth place. Joani Ashley was not far behind in 10th (5.44m), Naomi Ashley was in 13th (5.36m) and Payton McHenry finished for Purdue Fort Wayne in 18th (4.80m). Dylan Kirkwood reached a score of 2,942 in the Pentathalon and finished in 12th.
