Men's Volleyball Falls 3-1 Against McKendree

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After two extended sets, Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball fell to McKendree 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 24-26, 28-26) on Saturday (Feb. 29) on Arnie Ball Court.
Set One
The Bearcats took the lead early in the first set and went on a five-point run to advance their lead 7-4. The 'Dons were able to tie up the set at 15 after a block by Pelegrin Vargas and Tomas Gago, butMcKendree took set one 25-22. Jon Diedrich tallied four kills and Vargas added three.
Set Two
In set two, the Mastodons were able to take the lead 7-6 after a kill by Gago. McKendree came back for the lead, but the 'Dons were able to move forward to 10-9 after a block by Richie Diedrich and Jon Diedrich. Purdue Fort Wayne staved off two set points, but McKendree ultimately took the frame.
Set Three
A four-point run for the Mastodons in set three put them up 4-3 early. Richie Diedrich recorded a block and Jon Diedrich had a kill to contribute to the run. It was back and forth with 20 ties and lead changes, but the Mastodons were able to come back and win set three 26-24 after a block by Vargas and Gago. The 'Dons out-hit the Bearcats .220 to .146.
Set Four
Wilmer Hernandez had two kills back-to-back and Jon Diedrich contributed a kill to take the 'Dons to a 10-7 lead in set four. McKendree tied up the set at 16, but the Mastodons were able to advance to 20-17 when Jon Diedrich had a kill off of the McKendree block. The Bearcats made a comeback late in the set and were victorious after a score of 28-26.
