Reed Breaks 60 Meter Dash Record at Strive For Greatness Invitational

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Purdue Fort Wayne women's track & field athlete Jai Reed broke the program record in the 60 meter dash at the Strive For Greatness Invitational on Friday, Dec. 10.
Reed's time of 7.71 seconds in the 60 meter dash semifinals broke Kiawna Cottrell's time of 7.80 seconds, which was set back on Feb. 27, 2015. This is the fourth program record broken between the men's and women's track & field team in the first two meets of the season.
Reed's time in the 60 meter dash was good enough to move to the finals where she finished in second at 7.72 seconds.
The top finishers on the women's side were Katie Clark (1:39.46), Makaila Groves (1:42.22), and Sophia Buck (1:43.59) in the 600 meter dash with a second, sixth and ninth place finish. Miranda Haney (1.62 meters) finished fifth in the high jump while Payton McHenry (5.38 meters) and Mariah Oberhaus (5.01 meters) placed sixth and seventh in the long jump. Jordan Yanders (26.03 seconds) was seventh in the 200 meter dash.
The top finishers on the men side were Zyler Johnson (16.13 meters) and Asher Walden (15.40 meters) in the weight throw. They placed second and sixth. Cory Waldron (1:24.47) finished in fourth in the 600 meter dash, Cain Hohne (1.88 meters) was sixth in the high jump and Zyler Johnson (13.21 meters) was ninth in the shot put.
The Mastodons will continue their season in 2022 when they travel to University Center, Mich. to compete in the SVSU Classic on Friday, Jan. 14 at the Ryder Center.
