Baseball Drops Pair of One-Run Games at Murray State

Game 1 – Murray State 5, Purdue Fort Wayne 4
The 'Dons scored one in the first on a Justin Greene RBI single to knock in Aaron Chapman. Purdue Fort Wayne then put up a three spot in the fourth to give the 'Dons a 4-2 lead. Jack Lang recorded an RBI single in the inning and then Chapman had a fly ball fall just inside the right field line to knock in two runs for a double.
Murray State knotted the game with two unearned runs in the sixth inning. It was stayed 4-4 the rest of the way until Murray State scored one in the bottom of the ninth to win it. The Mastodons' best chance to go ahead came in the top of the ninth when Garett Lake advanced to second with two outs before Trenton Stoner flew out to end the inning.
Kevin Fee took the loss. He is 0-1. Jacob Myer started and earned a no-decision after 7.2 innings of work. He allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven.
Chapman finished with three hits, two RBI and a run scored. Lang had two hits. Stoner had a hit and a walk.
Jacob Pennington threw the final 5.1 innings to get the win. He allowed only one hit.
Game 2 – Murray State 3, Purdue Fort Wayne 2
After two walks in the top of the second inning, Stoner bunted both runners to second and third base. A single from Andrew Arteaga drove Andrew Lawvere home for the Mastodons' first run of the game. Lucas Kolovitz then came around on a wild pitch.
In the fourth, Murray State took the lead back when Jordan Cozart scored on a base hit from Brennan McCullough. Later that inning, a single to right field hit by David Hudleson advanced McCullough and Trey Woosley home, adding two additional runs.
Michael Madura was charged with the loss for the 'Dons after giving up three runs in 4.1 innings. Ryan Robison didn't allow a run in the final 1.2 innings.
Alec Whaley earned the win while Connor Holden got the save for the Racers.
At the plate, Kolovitz had a hit, run scored and a walk.
The 'Dons fall to 1-3. Murray State improves to 4-3. The Mastodons are back in action next weekend when they host Youngstown State in the Horizon League opener.
