CHICAGO - Gerald Pintarich gave up just one run in 8.0 innings of work, but in the end it wasn't enough as the UIC Flames defeated Purdue Fort Wayne 1-0 on Friday (April 16) afternoon in the series opener between the two baseball programs.
Pintarich falls to 1-2 with the loss. He was out-dueled by UIC pitcher Jacob Key. The Flames hurler took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before Aaron Chapman singled with two outs. Chapman was the third baserunner of the game for the Mastodons. Chapman walked in the fourth inning and Justin Greene reached on an error in the eighth inning. Key had two strikeouts in his nine-inning shutout. Key moves his record to 4-2.
The lone run of the game came in the seventh inning. Bryan Rosario started the inning with a single. He stole second and then went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Sean Dee knocked him in with a single.
UIC improves to 11-15 (10-10 Horizon League). The 'Dons fall to 9-15 (6-11 Horizon League). The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday (April 17) in a 1 p.m. ET start.
