Hudson-Turpin Sets Record and Leads 'Dons at Gibson Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - On the third and final day of the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State on Saturday (April 17), freshman Jesseca Hudson-Turpin led the Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team by setting a school record and placing second in the 100 meter hurdle finals.
Hudson-Turpin clocked in a time of 14.14, resetting her previous record in the 100 meter hurdle finals by .19 seconds and placing second overall. She also competed in the 400 meter hurdles and finished in seventh with a time of 1:05.25. In the 400 meter dash, Maya Preece recorded a time of 58.00, earning ninth place. Katie Clark came in 16th (59.85), Rachel Pierre-Louis was in 19th (1:00.29) and Mackenzie Lanning finished in 26th (1:03.55). Sophomore Haley Pandazis represented Purdue Fort Wayne in the 100 meter dash, taking 31st with a time of 13.19.
In the 1500 meter run, Kathy Potter led the 'Dons with a time of 5:02.70, placing 33rd overall. Madison King was not far behind in 37th (4:07.21), Kiannah Sarver came in 41st (5:12.06) and Mercedes Sarver rounded out Purdue Fort Wayne in 49th (5:34.37).
The 4x400 meter relay A-squad, made up of Lanning, Pierre-Louis, Clark and Preece, ran to a time of 4:02.00 and came in eighth. The B-squad, Makaila Groves, Brayden Langdon, Lauren Morales and Gianna Stanich, recorded a time of 4:14.38 and finished in 11th.
Miranda Haney jumped her way to eighth place in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m. Allyssa Hennessey tied for 13th and had a mark of 1.50m while Kelsey Shatava came in 16th with a mark of 1.50m. Jai Reed competed in the long jump and finished in 16th place with a mark of 5.07m. Payton McHenry jumped to 4.62m, earning 23rd. Reed also competed in the triple jump and made her way into 15th place (10.02m). Abbigail Garwood threw a mark of 11.14m, placing 27th in the shot put.
The 'Dons finished the Gibson Invitational in 13th place with 14 points.
Purdue Fort Wayne will head to Rochester, Michigan for the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Invite at Oakland University on Saturday (April 24). The meet will begin at 12 p.m. ET.
