Haney's New School Record Leads 'Dons to Third Place Finish

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team ended the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Invite at Oakland University with a new school record and a third-place finish with 102 points on Saturday (April 24).
Sophomore Miranda Haney jumped to a height of 1.65m in the high jump, recording a new school record and finishing in third place. Kelsey Shatava had a jump of 1.50m and came in sixth.
In the 100 meter hurdle finals, Jesseca Hudson-Turpin finished with a time of 14.40 and placed fifth. Dylan Kirkwood was right behind Hudson-Turpin in sixth place with a time of 14.58. Sophia Buck rounded out the 'Dons in eighth place and recorded a time of 15.61. Hudson-Turpin and Kirkwood also competed in the 400 meter hurdles with Hudson-Turpin clocking in at 1:04.62 (third) and Kirkwood came in at 1:05.88 (fifth). The Mastodons claimed the second, third, fourth and fifth-place spots in the 400 meter dash. In second place was Maya Preece (56.74), Katie Clark came in third (59.87), Mackenzie Lanning finished in fourth (1:01.88) and Rachel Pierre-Louis clinched the fifth place spot (1:02.49). In the 200 meter dash, Haley Pandazis recorded a time of 26.56, earning eighth place and Buck finished in 13th with a time of 28.73.
Gianna Stanich earned first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.00. Makaila Groves wasn't far behind in third place (2:23.36), Lauren Morales was in fifth (2:29.55), Brayden Langdon came in seventh (2:31.67), Kirsten Macintyre finished in 10th place (2:41.82) and Sarah Majewski concluded the race in 11th (2:46.57). Freshman Madison King claimed the first place spot in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:45.12. Kiannah Sarver recorded a time of 18:47.43, placing fifth overall. Kathy Potter came in seventh (19:02.05), Mercedes Sarver was in 10th (20:49.15) and Michaela Sheets concluded for the Mastodons in 11th (21:57.40). Potter led he way in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:57.75 and placed seventh. Mercedes Sarver came in ninth and clocked in at 5:24.26.
The 4x400 meter relay A-squad, consisting of Lanning, Hudson-Turpin, Preece and Clark, earned the third place spot with a time of 4:02.51. The B-squad, made up of Groves, Stanich, Morales and Langdon, placed fourth and had a time of 4:13.00.
Abbigail Garwood threw to a mark of 11.16m in the shot put, placing fifth. Maddi Hardin had a mark of 10.08m and earned seventh place. Megan Sinnott competed in her first javelin event of the season and took advantage of the opportunity by winning with a throw of 36.56m. Garwood also was in the javelin and recorded a throw of 26.98m and finished in third. In the discus throw, Hardin was the only Mastodon representative and earned ninth with a throw of 29.63m. Garwood and Hardin were in the hammer throw as well with Garwood placing seventh (33.81m) and Hardin in eighth (30.96m).
In the long jump, Jai Reed made her way into the sixth place spot and jumped to a mark of 5.05m. Payton McHenry was right behind Reed in seventh (4.95m), Buck claimed eighth place (4.83m) and Wilder jumped to 11th place (4.32m).
Purdue Fort Wayne will head to Valparaiso University for the Valpo Invite on Saturday (May 1) at the Warren G. Hoger Track Complex. The Valpo Invite will be the final meet before the 'Dons will compete at the 2021 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted at Youngstown State on Friday, May 7 through Sunday, May 9.
