Three First Place Finishes Highlight the Valpo Invite

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team took home three first place finishes at the Valpo Invite on Saturday (May 1) at the Warren G. Hoger Track Complex. The Mastodons finished the meet in third place with 77 points.
Rachel Pierre-Louis ran a time of 26.37 in the 200 meter run, clinching first place. Haley Pandazis was right behind Pierre-Louis in second place with a time of 26.71. Makaila Groves received first place in the 800 meter run and clocked in at 2:22.54. Kirsten Macintyre came in sixth (2:41.78) and Sarah Majewski earned eighth (2:43.52). Megan Sinnott threw to mark of 36.48m in the javelin and claimed first place overall, her second first place finish of the season.
In the 100 meter dash, Pandazis placed fourth overall and ran a time of 13.10. Pierre-Louis competed in the 400 meter run and had a time of 1:00.95, placing sixth. Mackenzie Lanning came in ninth and clocked in a time of 1:03.38.
Mercedes Sarver was the only Mastodon representative in the 1500 meter run and clinched fifth place with a time of 5:34.52. Sarver also earned sixth place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 22:49.43 while Michaela Sheets placed seventh and recorded a time of 23:19.37.
Maddi Hardin placed ninth in the hammer throw (31.72m) and in the shot put (9.82). Hardin also threw to a mark of 30.98m in the discus and came in 10th.
Leading the Mastodons in the long jump was Jai Reed in third place with a mark of 5.28m and Payton McHenry was fourth and jumped to a mark of 5.21m. With a height of 1.50m, Kelsey Shatava claimed fifth place in the high jump. Allyssa Hennessey rounded out the 'Dons in sixth place with a height of 1.45m.
Purdue Fort Wayne will travel to Youngstown, Ohio for the 2021 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday (May 7) through Sunday (May 9). This will be the Mastodons' first time competing in the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships since becoming a member of the league in July 2020.
