The Flames took control of the game with three runs in each of the first two innings. The first inning saw runs score on a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly and a single. The second inning saw home runs by Ryan Nagelbach and Matt Bottcher knock in the three runs.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored a run in the second, another run in the fifth and then added two in the eighth inning. Jack Lang, Zac Baden, Garett Lake and Andrew Arteaga each had an RBI.
Arteaga finished with a run scored, a hit, an RBI and a walk. Aaron Chapman knocked in a run while adding a walk and a hit. Ryan Mollette scored once with two walks.
Kevin Fee picked up the loss in his first collegiate start. He gave up six runs in 1.2 innings. He was one of seven Mastodons to take to the mound. Cade Willard threw a scoreless inning for the 'Dons.
Bobby Nickolson started for UIC. He went the requisite 5.0 innings to get the victory. He gave up two runs.
UIC improves to 14-15 (13-10 Horizon League). Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 9-18 (6-14 Horizon League). The 'Dons step out of league play and head to Ohio University next weekend.
