Purdue Fort Wayne Drops a Pair of Games at Ohio in Doubleheader

ATHENS, Ohio - Aaron Chapman had a two-run home run in the second game, but the Purdue Fort Wayne dropped a doubleheader at Ohio on Friday (April 23). The Mastodons fell 12-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
Game 1, Mastodons 2, Ohio 12 - scheduled seven-inning game
The Bobcats' pitching held Purdue Fort Wayne at bay for the first five innings, during which they scored 11 of their 12 runs. Ohio's seven-run second inning was when the Bobcats did most of their damage.
Trenton Stoner had two hits in his three at bats from the two-spot and Zac Baden matched him from the ninth slot.
Baden was responsible for both Mastodon runs. In the sixth, he scored on a wild pitch. He reached on a single in the first plate appearance of the inning, then advanced to third after singles from Jack Lang and Stoner. In the seventh inning, Luke Miles drew a walk, then stole second before Baden sent him home with a single to center field.
Gerald Pintarich (1-3) was credited with the loss. Ohio's Joe Rock improved to 7-1 thanks to 14 strikeouts in the seven-inning affair.
Game 2, Mastodons 2, Ohio 5
Until the fourth inning, all the runs scored in the second game came by way of the home run ball.
Chapman hit a homer first, taking a shot over the left field wall. This brought home Garrett Lake, who drew a walk.
Ohio responded with a pair of home runs, both solo, in the first and second innings. The Bobcats tallied the game-winning run in the fourth inning on a double to left center. They scored twice more in the eighth to put the game away.
Chapman finished the game with two of the Mastodons' six hits.
In five innings of work, Jacob Myer (3-4) tossed five strikeouts. Cameron Boyd struck out two Bobcats in three innings. Ohio's Edward Kutt IV picked up the win in 4.2 innings. Braxton Kelly also pitched for 4.1.
The Mastodons fall to 9-20, while Ohio improves to 19-13 after the doubleheader. These two teams will meet for a third and final time on Saturday with an 11 a.m. first pitch.
