Know Your Foe
IUPUI is 7-19, 5-11 in the Horizon League. The Jaguars have lost six straight games, coming off a pair of losses at UIC and four against Youngstown State, but they have a series win against Cleveland State. Jennah Speth leads the team with five home runs and 12 RBIs. She also has the team's best ERA with 3.19 and a record of 4-8.
The Series
Purdue Fort Wayne has played IUPUI more than any other school in its softball history. The two teams have met 46 times, which the 'Dons lead 26-20. The Mastodons have taken the last two games from the Jaguars, a 3-2 neutral contest in Rosemont, Illinois and a 16-2 drubbing in Fort Wayne in 2018. Morganne Denny and Rachel Everson had two and one RBIs, respectively, in that contest. Denny hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Taking Names and Series Finales
The Mastodons have taken the final game of three series this season: Evansville (8-7), Youngstown State (11-6) and Robert Morris (9-5).
Slugger
Kyndell Ethridge has the fifth-highest slugging percentage in the Horizon League this season at .630.
Goin' Yard
The Mastodons have 23 home runs this season, which leads the Horizon League, even despite playing at least four fewer games than seven of the nine other League teams. In Horizon League play only, the 'Dons have six more home runs than the next closest team. The 'Dons have three different players with four home runs this season: Kyndell Ethridge, Morganne Denny and Meagan Mullaney. Purdue Fort Wayne already has more home runs than in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The 'Dons need two to tie their mark from 2018.
High-Powered Offense
The Mastodons have scored eight or more runs six times this season. The 'Dons are 5-1 in such games.
Now Walk It Out
Alise Hale has drawn the third-most walks in the Horizon League this season with 11.
Save a Spot at the Table
Lauren McConnell is one of only two players in the Horizon League with two saves on their résumé this season. The other is Youngstown State's Maddi Lusk.
A Grand Outing
In the Mastodons' third game against Cleveland State, Madeline Swart hit a grand slam against the Vikings. It was the third home run of her career, but the first with anyone on base.
Just One Hit
Jadelyn Johnson threw a one-hitter against Cleveland State on Friday, March 12, which the Mastodons won 11-1. She gave up the one hit (a single) on the penultimate at bat of the game after tossing five strikeouts. She became the first Mastodon to throw a one-hitter since Bailey Benefiel threw an eight-inning one-hitter against Nicholls State in 2018.
Last Time Out
The Mastodons dropped a pair of games at Green Bay in a midweek doubleheader. Madeline Swart went 4-for-5 with three doubles on the day.
Coming Up
Purdue Fort Wayne will hit the road for another four-game Horizon League series at Northern Kentucky on April 16 and 17.
