Mosher’s Walk-Off Grand Slam Gives Mastodons 9-8 Win
5/4/2021 8:24:00 PM | Softball
Game One – Oakland 5, Purdue Fort Wayne 1
The Mastodons took the lead with a single run in the first. Madeline Swart opened the game with a double and would come around two batters later. The 'Dons would load the bases in the inning but leave them that way.
Oakland scored three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. The three runs in the fifth came on a three-run home run by Lauren Griffith. The two in the fifth were scored by a two-RBI single by Jessie Munson.
Swart finished with two hits. Olivia Stansbury and Morganne Denny added the Mastodons 'other hits.
Shaina Eyre went all seven, allowing five runs (three earned) with six strikeouts. She is now 7-12. Sydney Campbell also went the distance for the Golden Grizzlies to get the win.
Game Two – Purdue Fort Wayne 9, Oakland 8
Oakland entered the seventh up a run following a solo home run by Arieanna Grammatico in the sixth. The Golden Grizzlies added two more in the top of the seventh to go up 8-5.
Denny and Alise Hale opened the bottom of the seventh with singles to put the tying run at the plate. Kennedy Steele flew out before Rachel Everson beat out a dribbler just in front of the catcher for an infield hit. That loaded the bases with one out. Ashley Haas struck out for the second out.
Then came Mosher to the plate. The junior had zero home runs on the season and fell behind 0-2 in the count. She fouled off a pitch, took a ball and then blasted the next pitch over the left field wall for the game winning walk-off grand slam.
It was Mosher's second time on base in the game after a walk earlier in the contest.
Stansbury had a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to make it 3-2 after Oakland's Jenn Krizka hit a three-run home run in the top of the first.
While the 'Dons had an answer seemingly each time Oakland scored, the 'Dons never held a lead until Mosher touched home following the grand slam.
Kennedy Steele and Everson each had three hits in the game.
Lauren McConnell got the win in relief for the 'Dons. She is now 2-6. Campbell took the loss in relief for the Golden Grizzlies. She is now 13-5.
The Mastodons are now 12-23 (11-20 Horizon). Oakland falls to 20-14 (19-11 Horizon). The 'Dons are at Oakland this weekend.

Who did Camryn Mosher call immediately after her walk-off grand slam? Did she know it was gone off the bat?
