Swart Homers But Oakland Edges ‘Dons Late in Game Two

Game One – Oakland 7, Purdue Fort Wayne 0
The first contest of the day was the completion of a suspended contest from Friday. The 'Dons stepped on the field trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third. Oakland added to their lead with three in the fifth and then one in the sixth. Jen Krizka and Jamie Squires each had a double for Oakland in the contest. Sydney Campbell moved her record to 14-5 with a complete game.
Meagan Mullaney, Kennedy Steele and Emma McMillan each had a single for the 'Dons.
Shaina Eyre took the loss, going 2.1 innings and falling to 7-13.
Game Two – Oakland 6, Purdue Fort Wayne 5
Swart started the game with a leadoff inside the park home run. She pulled a 2-2 pitch to right field and after the Oakland right fielder's diving attempt came up short, the ball rolled to the wall. Swart motored around the bases for the run.
The 'Dons went up 4-0 with a three-run fifth inning. Lexi Smalarz knocked in McMillan with an bunt single. Smalarz then stole second and eventually came home on a sacrifice fly by Swart.
Oakland got the runs back in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run home run by Lauren Griffith.
The sixth saw McMillan knock in Kyndell Ethridge to put the 'Dons up 5-3. They took this lead to the seventh. The 'Dons got the first out of the bottom of the seventh with a pop up, but five consecutive Oakland singles followed to give the Golden Grizzlies a walk-off victory. Jessie Munson had the game winning hit.
Olivia Stansbury finished with a double and a single in the game. McMillan also had two hits.
Kayla Marburger threw just the seventh to get the win and give herself a 1-0 record on the year. Jadelyn Johnson started and picked up a no-decision for the 'Dons. She allowed just the three-run home run in 5.0 innings. Eyre suffered the loss in relief to fall to 7-14.
Oakland improves to 22-14 (21-11 Horizon). The 'Dons fall to 12-25 (11-22 Horizon). The two teams will play a makeup doubleheader on Sunday (May 9) in a start time to be determined based on the weather forecast.
