New Record and Podium Finish Round Out Day Two

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Day two of the 2021 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships finished on Saturday (May 8) with a podium finish and a new school record for the Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field program.
Alex Schipper competed in his first collegiate outdoor track and field meet in the pole vault and reached a mark of 4.57m, clinching a third place overall spot. Asher Walden set the Purdue Fort Wayne school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.71m. Walden finished in sixth for the Mastodons. Aaron Martin came in 15th (41.24m) and Tony Ordway was 17th (34.72m).
In the decathlon, Elijah Merida earned 5,025 points and finished in fourth place. Logan Alexander was up next in fifth place with 4,580 points and Conner Bayne came in seventh with 4,024.
Jaden Warner claimed 12th place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.99. John Jackman was 14th (11.13) and Ian Bollheimer finished in 19th (11.40). Jackman also placed 10th in the 200 meter dash preliminaries and clocked in a time of 22.58 while Warner was in 12th with a time of 22.66. In the 400 meter dash, Braxton Trittipo led the 'Dons in eighth place and recorded a time of 50.85, earning a spot in the 400 meter dash finals. Connor West was close behind in ninth place with a time of 51.58. Brent Donaldson represented Purdue Fort Wayne in the 110 meter hurdle finals and ended the event in 10th place, recording a time of 15.87. Donaldson also competed in the 400 meter hurdles and finished in eighth place (57.41).
The 4x100 meter relay squad, consisting of Jackman, Ian Bollheimer, Luke Beehler and Trittipo, ran a time of 44.26 and ended in sixth place.
Coming in seventh place for the 800 meter preliminaries was Weston Miser (1:54.95), qualifying for the finals. Cory Waldron came in 14th (1:57.73), Bryce Taylor was in 16th (2:00.01), Keagan Stuckey finished in 17th (2:02.66) and Kehinde Oladapo rounded out the Mastodons in 19th (2:06.38).
Beehler jumped his way to 6.78m in the long jump and came in seventh place. Ordway recorded a mark of 12.77m in the shot put, placing 12th overall. Garrett Anglemeyer reached 12.62m and finished in 13th.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne owns 35 points and is sitting at fourth place.
The third and final day of competition with begin on Sunday (May 9) at 9 a.m. with the men's high jump. Events have been moved indoors due to weather concerns. Tomorrow's indoor portion of the championship will be contested without fans as directed by the Horizon League Board of Directors on all indoor competition this year.
