Women's Soccer Tied Bellarmine 1-1 In Non-League Match

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team tied a non-league match against Bellarmine 1-1 on Sunday, Aug. 29 at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. With the tie, the Mastodons unbeaten streak extends to four games as they move to 1-0-3 overall.
Early on in the game's 12th minute, Morgan Reitano had an opportunity to score within 20 yards of the Knights goal, but her shot was headed away by a Knights defender. In the second half, the Mastodons would get on the board with a goal from Gigi Ricciardi at the 70th minute with an assist from Kayla Shebar. Shebar crossed the ball from the left side of the field to Ricciardi, and Ricciardi was able to fit the ball just inside the post. The goal was Ricciardi's first of her collegiate career, and the assist was Shebar's first in her collegiate career. Just nine minutes later, in the 79th minute, Sophie Bish tied the game with an assist from Zenia Nava. Nava took a shot towards the lower right part of the net, which was saved by Samantha Castaneda. The ball would reflect right to Bish, and she would score towards the lower left of the net. The 'Dons would put up five shots between both overtime periods, but were unable to score the game winning goal.
Both teams had 13 shots each with the 'Dons owning an 8-4 shots on goal advantage. Bella Reitano led the 'Dons in shots with three, one was on goal. Mackenzie Evans and Ricciardi added two shots each, both of which were on goal. In goal was Castaneda, she played in all 110 minutes, saved three shots and allowed one goal.
Through four matches the 'Dons have given up only two goals on the season.
Bellarmine is now 0-0-3.
The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 2 to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa. The Hawkeyes are 3-1 and are coming off a 1-0 OT loss against Kansas.
