Men's Volleyball Travels To East Coast For a Pair of Matches

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team is set to compete in a pair of road matches this weekend.
The Mastodons (2-2) travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, Jan. 22 (3 p.m.). Following Saturday's match, the 'Dons travel to Newark, N.J. to take on NJIT on Sunday, Jan. 23 (1 pm.).

Know Your Foe: St. Francis Brooklyn
Saturday will be the first time the 'Dons have faced off against St. Francis Brooklyn. Saturday's is also the first match of the season for the Terriers. In 2021, the Terriers went 3-3 overall. Their lone home win of the 2021 season came against Sacred Heart back on March. 30.
The top attacker returning to the Terriers is David Vorfi. Offensively, he led the Terriers in total kills (55), was second in kills per set (2.62) and hit .190. Defensively, Vorfi was tied second in blocks (6.0) and collected 26 digs.
Know Your Foe: NJIT
The 'Dons and Highlanders have met 17 times prior to Sunday's match. While the 'Dons own a 15-2 advantage over NJIT, the Highlanders won the last match back on Jan. 23, 2020 3-0, exactly two years prior to Sunday's match.
NJIT is off to a 0-2 start this season after being rank No. 15 in the AVCA preseason poll. Its losses to Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association foes Lewis and Loyola Chicago in four sets.
Julian Meissner leads the Highlanders in total kills (25), kills per set (3.12), total digs (11), and digs per set (1.38). He also hits .190 for the season.
'Dons Ranking In the NCAA
Indivudually, the 'Dons rank in the top 10 in several categories in the NCAA. Jon Diedrich leads the country in kills in a 5-set match (26), second in kills per set (4.79), fifth in attacks per set (9.57) and tied for sixth for most kills in a three-set match (15). In addition, Sean Califf is ninth in the country in assists per set (9.71) and Bryce Walker is tied for 10th in hitting percentage (.500).
